Some people make the mistake of adding bourbon. There's no bourbon in this shake. It's milk and ice cream. Add less ice cream for a thinner milkshake. The malt powder will make a richer shake, but it's optional.

How to Make a Five-Dollar Shake

— Ingredients —

vanilla ice cream
4 cups vanilla ice cream
(high quality)
milk
1 cup milk
(whole)
malt powder
4 tbsp malt powder
(optional)
pure vanilla extract
1 + 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
(optional)
white sugar
1 tbsp white sugar
(granulated)
heavy whipping cream
1 cup heavy whipping cream
(1/2 pint)
confectioners
2 tsp confectioners' sugar
cherries
2-4 cherries

— Instructions —

  1. Put mixing bowl and beaters in freezer to chill (about 20 minutes).
  2. When cold, remove bowl from freezer and combine whipping cream, confectioners' sugar, and 1/2 tsp of the vanilla extract.
  3. Whisk at high speed with chilled beaters until stiff peaks form (about 1 minute). Do not overbeat.
  4. Blend remaining ingredients except for cherries until smooth.
  5. Pour shake mixture into tall glasses.
  6. Top each glass with whipped cream and a cherry, and add a straw.
