Within the first month of release, players have discovered fun surprises hidden in the game. Developers say there are even more secrets to be found.

Are you playing Pokémon Go? Here's a list of the best strategies and confirmed easter eggs we've found hidden in the game so far.


1. Start with Pikachu.

  • When you begin the game, you can select Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle as your starter Pokémon.
  • If you ignore them and walk away, you'll be given a Pikachu option. Now you can play just like Ash in the anime!


2. Choose your Eeveelution.

  • You can choose what your Eevees evolve into.
  • Change the nickname of your Eevee to Rainer, Sparky, or Pyro to evolve a Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon, respectively.


3. Find Hitmonlee guarding his namesake.

  • Hitmonlee is a Pokémon named after Bruce Lee. If you visit Lee's grave in Lake View Cemetery, Seattle, you'll find a family of Hitmonlees guarding the site.


4. Find Chansey at pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals.

  • Chansey is a very kindhearted Pokémon associated with healing.
  • In fact, Chansey is so generous that it will lay eggs to share with injured people and Pokémon.
  • Though rare in the wild, Chansey has been sighted at locations of healing and recovery, like hospitals.


5. This egg likes butter.

  • After walking the distance to hatch an egg, you may see a strange message: "Hatch this egg by feeding it butter. It likes all kinds of butter, every kind. The best kind".
